Hello,

Is there a way to permanently turn off the Share Data for the RadarBox Network in the Share Flight Data tick box which is located off the File - Preferences menu on the RadarBox tab.

This feature makes an outbound connection from my computer immediately upon activating the RadarBox 3D software and is using my internet bandwidth to upload to the RadarBox Network. If I am not mistaken AirNav Systems is charging customers for this data which I am providing for free. Why am I going to be charged for something I am helping make viable and others profit?

I think that the fact it defaults to on is well beyond reproach and could lead the customer or RadarBox owner to immediately commit illegal sharing of the ADS-B data and other information that originates from their RadarBox should such sharing be illegal in their country, province, or state.

Cheers :-)

There is no permanent way to stop sharing from RadarBox. This topic has been discussed in detail on this forum and a quick search will bring up the topics.

Could you please provide the relevant links. I couldn't find them. The last comment in my post is something I'm particularly interested in hearing other peoples views on. I'd be interested to see the posts not just the thread that discuss it.

Thanks :-)

Edit: It's ok I found some.

I've had my RadarBox for quite some time and after reflecting on the various implications of sharing the data I have decided against it. It's a questionable practice with possible legal implications even if they haven't been challenged yet. I don't care to be one of the legal test cases when the laws are challenged.

I wouldn't worry that you will be targeted Falcon.  Radarbox and similar items are used all over the world for sharing flight data even in some of the most repressive states and no one has yet been targeted for sharing such data.  The data provided by sharers using whatever type of receiver is shared with numerous websites and is freely available to anyone who wants to receive it.

Here the UK is one of the most surveillance intensive states there is in gathering data from and about its population and they don't appear to have any concerns.  So much so that the 2 surveillance aircraft normally flying over the London area gathering data change their hex codes on occasions to try and put us off the track to try and hide their identity.

I shouldn't imaging that you would have any concerns in your country but as you are worried I am sure that switching off sharing will be uppermost in your mind now every time you start up your software.
