To begin with you will need a radio receiver capable of receiving the transmissions and outputting to the PC.

It may well be worth searching the Internet for help. Here is a document to get you started.

Hi

I've used another ACARS decoder. You need to connect your radio to your line in on the sound cardand set the line in to "record". I would try with the recoding level set to max and control the level with your radio volume. My sampling rate is set to 44100Hz. You may have to try different settings on your sound card to get it to work. I use frequencies 131.525,131.725 and 131.825

I can get about 2000 messages in 9 hours by scanning the 3 frequencies with no delay set on my radio. The problem with scanning is some of the mesage may be missed so cannot be decoded.

I have my squelch set so I cannot hear background noise. My volume is set to 25 - 30% so as not to overload the sound card.

I would try some of the other frequencies to see if you get better results as I find airlines use different frequencies. Not all airlines use ACARS ie Ryanair, Flybe, Jet2.

If your results are still poor try the Mic in socket on you PC sound card

Good luck

Bearcat means to only scan the ACARS frequencies that he has suggested.

I would leave the scanner on only one frequency (say 131.725) until you have got the volume and squlelch settings at the right level. When you are getting regular ACARS transmissions then introduce the other frequencies.

Yes only scan the ACARS frequencies. I would try another frequency and see what result you get. I find some frequencies can be used more than the others. Looking at the Ainav Acars picture what is the strength meter for. Is this to show the strength of the signal received? On my ACARSD I have my meter set at about 60 - 70%
