Ian,

780711 B-3176, Embraer 190-100LR, c/n 19000406, Tianjin Airlines on its delivery flight.

Alan

Alan, thanks for that. A good one to spot. Apparently, they regularly come over this part of Spain on their deliveries to Tianjin Airlines.  First one I have managed to get.

BT, if all the columns of a AC entry are filled no look up in the central Database will be proceeded.

As far as I know there are two ways to force a auto re-population:

1st. Delete the complete record from the Database. Next time the AC's HEX address will be received the new -and then hopefully correct- Data will be added to your Navdatabase. The existing pictures of the B727 shall be overwritten.

2nd. Go to your picture folder and delete the pictures D-ABKI.bmp and if present D-ABKI,2.bmp. On next time the AC is received, the Software will look for the missing pictures and will detect the new AC Data and shall update your Database.

As far as I know a recurring check whether the AC Data is still correct or not, is unfortunately not part of the software at present time.

This hasnt come as a surprise for you has it, where have you been!!!

It isnt erroneous data population, the data came with your system and was possibly correct at the time.  If you have a look in database explorer it will frighten you when you see the incorrect data.

The reason the update thread is running is because the records supplied with the box are a couple of years out of date, hence this thread and the reason why the updaters are hard at work as we write, have a read back through the thread.

Mind you when the new navdata file comes out you wont have the problem then with the particular record.  Before you ask I dont know when that will be but hopefully it will be soon as it is in test.

Alan

To further clarify this is a nuance of the way the system selects photos.  It will not be fixed with a new Navdata, it can only be resolved with a new version of the software.  Airnav are aware that this needs addressing that way.

For the 737 D-ABKI.  When you get the updated aircraft details using the method above, the photos you see under myflights are derived using the old system of searching Airliners.net for most viewed picture.  In the case of D-ABKI all the 727 pics have around 2,000 views, whereas the 737 pics all have less than 500.  Therefore the system will always currently populate old 727 pictures.

In our updater we can provide links for correct pictures, manually selected by us.  This was planned to be the new system.  When you update aircraft details from the DB it also populates your navdata with the links we have selected of the correct airframe.

The bug means that despite this correct info now being in your navdata, the system still ignores this and populates the thumbnail for the most viewed pictures to your photo folder, even if that is a different link to that stipulated in your Navdata and our updater.

However, if you click on the photo thumbnail of the wrong airframe that appears under your myflights list, it will take you to the link that is in the Navdata and will open a new window with the Airliners.net page for the link we have manually selected.

Therefore to summerise.  Correct links will populate into your Navdata.  The bug means the system still displays incorrect photos for which us updaters have no control.  All photo thumbnails will remain outside our control, this will still occur when a new Navdata is released and will continue to occur until airnav change the photo system with a new software release.

However the background links to Airliners.net behind the thumbnail is within our control and will likely be different to the thumbnail in the majority of records.  Clicking on the incorrect thumbnail photo displayed on your radarbox screen underneath myflights will open the Airliners.net link to the photo that is manully selected in our Updater.  This should be the correct airframe and will likely in most cases be different to the thumbnail picture that you clicked on.

To further clarify as there seems to be confusion still in certain quarters.

I did not say the majority of thumbnails would show the wrong aircraft.  I said the majority of thumbnails will show a different airliner.net thumbnail photo to the photo that we have linked to in the background.  In the majority of cases this will just be a different photo of the same and currently used airframe.

In those few cases where the registration is reused or a Military number based tail number. It remains pot luck whether the thumbnail is the correct aircraft or not.  We are endeavouring to ensure the link always is the correct aircraft and a reasonable external view of it.

The thumbnail is automatically generated based on registration only.  There is no human element in this.  Although it is likely to be a reasonable shot of the actual airframe in the majority of cases.  No human has control to correct it in the minority of cases when this is not the case and you get a picture of a wingtip, cabins, airports out of the window, or with multiple uses of a registration another aircraft entirely.

We have zero control on the thumbnails, no human has.  But if the background links (clicking on the thumbnail in RB, opens in new internet explorer window) show an incorrect or bad picture in internet explorer let us know.  We can sort that.
