Powered USB Hub
« on: April 22, 2010, 04:32:24 PM »
Sorry about yet another question. Once again I read on the forum about users having a powered USB hub in the loft space and connecting box to that. I looked at a Belkin one today and the lad in the shop (seemed to be switched on) said that if I connected the box to this and plugged hub in to mains I could then run USB extension cable down to PC. Would be grateful for advice as I have definitely seen Belkin hub mentioned (at least I think, it's an age thing) At the same time I think someone mentioned that this may not work.

Thanks again folks :)

You shouldn't need to supply any external power to the USB cable as it will get the power from your PC.  What you're after is a 'powered usb extension cable'.

I just bought this but you should be able to find one closer to where you live as it's a very common item.

I use 2 of these joined together. Think it said you could use up to 4 connected together on packaging.

you've come up trumps again folks. Going shopping tomorrow for the bits, I can't get active USB cables here so that will need to be ordered over net so will just try standard USB extension to see how I get on. Will have more time over weekend to look on forum and shop around as I also need to get coax made up for my Radar Rama antenna.
