USB Disconnections....any updates
« on: April 01, 2010, 12:19:53 PM »
My Radarbox frequently disconnects.  All USB power saving options are disabled, tried various USB leads etc.  The Radarbox hardware still shows in device manager.

There are 2 ways of renabling the box:

1. Unplug USB at either end and plug back in.
2. Disable the Radarbox in device manager and then re-enable.

I run the Radarbox software (3D) with the network connection disabled.  When I reconnect the box using method 1 the network is enabled again for some reason.  This seems like a bug.

The fact that performing number 2 also reconnects the box suggests that the problem is not related to the USB cable / USB port.

Has there been any prgress in solving this annoying issue?

Running Windows 7 64 Bit.

My system always disconnects when my central heating system switches off.  A quick "out & in" of the USB and normal service resumes. This is not fanciful - it happens on a daily basis - and I should re-route the cabling but summer's coming!! Job for next autumn maybe.

See if you can tie up your problem to other electrical activity.

Yeah, done all of that.  Everything USB power related (management) is disabled.

Were any of the various USB cables you tried of the high quality shielded type, preferably with a ferrite ring ?
Everything about Airnav is fantastic. Airnav can do no wrong. Airnav is perfect. Airnav is divine.

I had the same problem when switching off the halogeen lamps in my room or transmitting on HF ( I am a hamradio amateur)
So I changed the cable with one that has ferite rings (chokes)  until now no problems anymore.
The lead came with a digital camera.

I am not sure about high quality and shielded.  The supplied USB cable does have a ferrite ring however.

Dazzlercee,

Forget the supplied cable with the Airnav unit.

Go to the Large Computer shop (no adverts) and buy a good quality cable,
should be screened.

I had the same problem when i purchased my unit over 12 months ago.

Also make sure you have turn off all Power save settings in windows,
If you look on the forum you will find the details.

My system runs 24/7 with no USB disconnect problems.

Regards

I had the same trouble when running RB 3.13 w/driver 2.6.0.0 on WinXP SP3 and all updates......could never overcome it, tried everything for days, finally installed VirtualBox from Sun on my MAC and run it there, works great non-stop now. I have seen up to 72 messages per second decoded with a lousy no-gain discone in the attic. The RB LED's light up the room in the dark!

For some reason, it would work great on start-up, then after about 2-2 1/2 mins, the 'signal' LED would stop flashing, then in another 2-2 1/2 mins, the 'USB' LED would slow down, then stop altogether; after 5 minutes total running time, the box was dead. Re-seating the USB cable brought it back to life for another 5 mins. A different USB cable did nothing for me.

Good luck getting yours to run; it will, just need to find the 'right' setup for your machine.

Its not a bug, we have many systems that we run and by our customers who stay connected for weeks on end.

Have you tried it with a different machine?

Wouldn't it be possible for the program to try to connect itself,(say 2 times),when it detects it is disconnected?
