Im a brand new radar box user, from Chicago. But Im not sure if my radar box is working right. Im only picking up 15 aircraft at a time, and only a few have had positional data. Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks,
Ben

Hi Ben and welcome to the forum!

It sounds as if your RadarBox is working OK - you are getting some flights, some of which are showing position - so it's not all bad :-)

Your lack of flights is probably down to two factors - first, many US airlines don't broadcast postition, especially domestic flights - for example, Southwest Airlines has NEVER appeared on a RadarBox screen yet - we hope that this will change over time as ADS-B becomes adopted more widely, especially in the USA.

Secondly - it's down to the position of your aerial. As Mode-S signals are strictly line-of-sight, aerial position is of huge importance, and the higher you can get it the better.

Read through some of the threads on the forum for (seemingly endless) discussion of this topic.

Hope that helps.

Thanks!! Thats disappointing about WN. Does cloud cover effect the receiver? Is there anyway to hook up the radar box with Airnav Live flight tracker 6?

Hmmm... Development are being playful again ;-) I suppose we'll have to wait and see what they're on about!

Ben - cloud cover isn't a problem at all, but heavy precipitation will cut reception noticeably. And no - the two systems are separate as far as users are concerned, though I assume that some RadarBox data is used by FlightTracker, the flow doesn't work the other way round.

Sounds very interesting...

I trust that Canadian users will also be included in the surprise?  I have been an AirNav Live 6 subscriber for nearly three years and was thinking of cancelling my subscription now that there are more and more RadarBox locations in Ontaro but maybe I should wait and see?

Can you give out any more hints as to what is to come?
