new to AirNav RadarBox
« on: March 01, 2009, 05:27:52 PM »
I have just bought a AirNav RadarBox and a nice bit of kit it is.

I have got logged 43C383 ModeS (RAF) and 43E78C ModeS   M-HOIL reg (RAF).

Of course no positions were recorded but is there a website that I can look at to find out what type of aircraft they are as no photos were displayed.

I have picked up 3 US Forces aircraft and they have pictures attached.

Also are Police helicopters ModeS compatable as I have one just down the road from me?

I have only had th unit running for 3 hours but already have over 20o contacts.

I feel that this bit of kit wil be getting a lot of use

Cheers for any help recieved

Welcome to the forum and the wonderful world of the Radarbox :-)

You will find that there is plenty of help available.

One web site that you may find of particular use to tie up those Mode S codes is

Police aircraft (including choppers) are generally Mode-S equipped, which means they will show up on your MyFlights list, but they aren't ADS-B equipped, which means they don't broadcast their position,  so don't show up on the map or on the network. (Same applies to most military aircraft)

Hope that helps.

By the way, Charlie, the M- registered aircraft won't be an RAF one, but is on the Isle of Man register, which uses mode-s codes from the RAF allocation.

It's a good idea to download Tarbat's D008.dat file, along with the associated country flags file from reply #5 on this thread: http://www.airnavsystems.com/forum/index.php?topic=1906.msg16810#msg16810

That fixes the problem.
