National Flags
« on: August 21, 2008, 08:04:47 AM »
Morning

All aircraft I am seeing on the network which have a country prefix of VP are being displayed with a UK flag.

Did this happen in the earlier version ? I feel sure the like of Aeroflot and Rossiya were shown with the CIS flag

I'm seeing these displayed with the Bermuda flag.  But that's using my modified D008.dat file, looking at the standard D008.dat file they will show with the UK flag as their aircraft use a ModeS hex code in the UK block of codes.

EDIT: Reading around it appears that some Russian airlines register their aircraft in Bermuda for whatever reaons.  See http://www.mondaq.com/article.asp?articleid=50312

So RB2008 must have displayed the UK flag too then as the flag is allocated on Mode-S although I really do not recall that.

It would require some work to the overall UK list of codes to separate out the different sub sets but it should be possible. It is also worth mentioning that as well as using VP-B Bermuda has now started using VQ- as a code. Maybe due to running out of codes due to all the "off-shore" use made of their registrations. :-)

Already done I think - see my post on http://www.airnavsystems.com/forum/index.php?topic=667.msg5037#msg5037

Hi,
Downloaded 2009 and all seems well.
However all my EVA flights still don't show the country flag.
Why is this code missing ?
The full information shows up but with no country flag.
Is anyone else having this problem and how do you solve it ???
Thanks
Mike.

What's EVA?  Do you have a ModeS hex code for the aircraft.  Country flags are derived from the ModeS hex code of an aircraft.

http://www.airframes.org/fleet/eva

They seem to all be 8990** hexcodes

will this work as an additional line in D008.dat?

TW,Taiwan,1000100110010000--------

The existing Taiwan line in D008.dat is:

TW,Taiwan,10001001100100----------

I don't recall seeing any missing flags.  Mike, have you altered your D008.dat file at all?

Ah... an edit to my edit - the default D008.dat doesn't seem to have a Taiwan entry, in which case Mike, you need to add the line

TW,Taiwan,10001001100100----------

to your D008.dat file and save the TW.bmp to your Flags folder

See the FAQ here, but be sure to back up files before you change them.

Maybe if you want to have all these odd exceptions to display with the correct country flag, use the D008.dat and flags I developed a while ago.  See http://www.airnavsystems.com/forum/index.php?topic=667.msg5037#msg5037

That's what I use with v2.0.  Perhaps this could be incorporated in v2.1?

I just noticed a missing flag against China Airlines aircraft too although the chinese flag must be in the Flags directory as it appears alongside Cathay aircraft.

Does this mean we need another line in D008.dat for China Airlines and if so how do you derive the string to put in there ?

What's the ModeS hex code for the China Airlines aircraft?  I've got all the following in my D008.dat file for China:
CN,China 1,0111100000000001000-----
HK,China Hong Kong 1,0111100000000001--------
HK,China Hong Kong 2,0111100000000010000-----
HK,China Hong Kong B-HIH,011110000000000100011111
MO,China Macau 1,011110000000001100111---
MO,China Macau 2,01111000000000110100----
MO,China Macau B-MAB,011110000000001100110110
MO,China Macau B-MAC,011110000000001100110111
MO,China Macau B-MAS,011110000000000100001000
MO,China Macau B-MAV,011110000000001010111100
MO,China Macau B-MAW,011110000000001011000100
CN,China,011110------------------

My advice is:
1. Backup your D008.dat file and your FLAGS folder.
2. Download flags.zip.
3. Put the new D008.dat file and FLAGS folder in your ANRB2009 data folder.
