Title: Frustrated!!!
Post by: 54901 - Jim on May 17, 2010, 10:10:50 AM
Yesterday afternoon, aircraft N392KC flew within range of my house.  Only the craft's ModeS information appeared on my screen.  I visited GAS's site and updated the information in both the NavData and MyLog databases.  When that same aircraft made its second appearance last evening, all of the information I had added was wiped from my system.  I get dozens of these almost-blank records everyday, despite the presence of complete information in GAS.

I have the full details in my database explorer.  Try updating the info there.

I updated the NavData information using Database Explorer and the MyLog information via the GUI.

hello

The details (including a photo) are in the main airnav database as well so it must be a problem with your system.

I have the full details in my database explorer.  Try updating the info there.

But have you logged any flights for the aircraft in question ?

I think Jim's point was that the aircraft details in your NavData aircraft database will disappear when it appears in MyFlights, because as of half an hour ago the AirNav server wasn't returning any details for that hex code (which is strange, as it's been on the US register for nearly 12 years).

As of a couple of minutes ago, details are now being returned by the server, so maybe it was a glitch and the timing of Jim's lookup was just unfortunate.

It should also be noted that for N962A GAS does not detail ICAO type and for C-FNAQ no modeS is detailed.

I had checked GAS and Airframes to see what data existed.  My reason for posting the above three items when they occurred is that HOPEFULLY someone in support is looking at a logfile and saying "That's why that didn't work!" and will be inching closer to a solution.

We are taking a look, the database is not down and not overloaded either, so we are checking whats happening.

Is the internet fine on your side, if you ping our website do you get any timeouts? (If that made no sense, tell us and we will give more steps)

Another empty ModeS record (since you're checking now) just occurred at 15:07 UTC --> A19AF3

I won't send any additional blank records unless you request them.

From my observations I very often see Cessna aircraft especially Ce525 and Ce560 with the nothing in the AT column.

At this time I have a Netjets Falcon 7X on my flights with only hex code and registration showing.  Looking at Database Explorer, all the info is there except AT.

When I get the blank ModeS records, the existing records with correct information are deleted from the NavData and MyLog databases.  The only evidence that something happened is that the ModeS info shows up (with no other aircraft data) in the MyLog database.

Runway 31 ... since you're curious about this too ... please do a search in your MyLog data ... Show All/All Time.  Search all of your MyLog data with the filter AircraftTypeSmall = and leave the box blank.  Click the Filter key to see if you have any blank records on your machine.

Thanks!

Yes quite a lot, take out USAF F15's etc drops it quite a bit but there are still a good amount, some because they are not on the database yet as they are so new.

Within the last week I have the following examples:
A8802F USA, Nothing in Airframes either
a3201b = N300JA
49D116 Czech, nothing in Airframes either
0D0431 = XA-FAS details were in Airframes but not the hex code, forwarded on
AA6CD2 = N771AV
4D203B = 9H-AFP
4CA852 nothing but on its delivery flight to Ryanair and not on Airframes
AE10EA - 2004 USCG

Alan

Edited to add, GAS now have 49D116 as OK-XLS

Alan:

Take a blank record of your choosing and update the data using Database Explorer.  If that aircraft should return to your area before the bug is fixed, you should find that the data has been deleted from the NavData database.  I've updated hundreds of these records only to find that I was like a dog chasing his tail.

Jim,

I am fortunate in that I can spend all day at the computer and any I find with details missing I update them in database explorer, the majority of them being network flights but 3 or 4 a day in my flights.   I am maybe lucky but very few get over written, or maybe it is just that I am not noticing but I will keep an eye on it.

Thanks

Alan

I'm retired with some time to play, too.  I don't use the network, so these are all locally generated flights that I like to keep track of.  This is not a high traffic area, plus my antenna needs to be located to a better position, but of the approximately 100 flights overhead in the past four hours, twelve of them have come up as blanks.

It appears that this problem has been resolved.  My list of blank records is gradually getting smaller.  Thank you for your prompt attention!
