Another beta testing screenshot.
When we drove past the Cromarty Firth yesterday we saw there were 5 oil rigs in for servicing, although only two appear to be transmitting AIS.

Q: what more columns do you have in the myships part of the screen??
-
Changed, Tracked, Tracking, PE, Status, Callsign, Country Flag, Name, Ship Type, Dest, DOB, DWT, Ln, Bm, Dr, Spd, Crs, Hdg, IMO, MMSI, Lat, Long, Country, Cargo Type, ETA, GPS Bow, GPS Stern, GPS Port, GPS Starboard, TypePosFix, DTE Flag, Nav Status, Rate of Turn, Pos Acc
I've suggested adding Distance, so you can sort by distance from home location.
-
The list looks good!
Distance is nice too; except for plotting ships, AIS is also nice for DX-ing (Tropo Ducts) ;-)
btw: can it also decode the typical inland-ais messages??
(more info here http://www.ccr-zkr.org/Files/ris/leafais2008_e.pdf )

Currently decodes message types:
01 - Position Report with SOTDMA
02 - Position Report with SOTDMA
03 - Position Report with ITDMA
04 - Base Station Report
05 - Ship static and voyage related data
-
Msg type 8:

That's not what I'd understand as a message type 8 - http://www.aisparser.com/sdk/structaismsg__8.html
But it is likely that other message types may need decoding. The most obvious one is message type 9 - http://www.aisparser.com/sdk/structaismsg__9.html
I'm no expert on AIS messages though :(
-
It is a SP "translated" type 8 msg, not in raw format.
I better hide somewhere in a dark corner, not being an expert, not even a novice in this kind of things..

-Hi There
Is this screenshot via a network or real time via a antenna? if so what range are you getting?
Cheers

It's taking a feed from ShipPlotter to simulate hardware.

+1 for distance readout for DX.

This is why I like ShipTrax. It shows me when the Cromarty Firth is really busy with ships, so I can grab my camera/binoculars and head out for an afternoon of ship-spotting!!!

Busy in the Irish Sea!
-
Hi there
What do the binoculars mean on those screenshots please?
Thanks
-
At the moment they just indicate that there is a thumbnail photo of that ship downloaded to the PC.
-
Another shot of the Irish Sea and Isle of Man area.
-
Great screenshot Allocator - really busy.
Just caught this lone tanker "swimming with the dolphins" at Chanonry Point!! Good to see the NASA satellite map server is responding better now.
With EGPE in shot, it made me think. Would be great to combine Radarbox and ShipTrax on one map!!
-
I'm sure that it could be done :-)
I keep forgetting about the satellite download!

When You have PlanePlotter and Shipplotter it can be done, application is called CombiPlotter at Coaa website.
For me not really usable, as map scale of spotting planes and ships is very different..

Busy again out in the Moray Firth.

Probably the busiest I've ever seen the Cromarty Firth. A mix of oil tankers, cargo vessels delivering wind-farm turbines, and pipe laying vessels being "re-filled" at Evanton. A good indication of how busy the oil and renewables industries are at the moment. And with the Nigg Yard finally promising to generate 2000 jobs, it can only get busier ;)
