Post by: Typhoon on September 12, 2009, 05:22:50 PM
Any one in Lancs area know why G-SPHU (Strathclyde Police Helicopter) has been buzzing around lately?

Just flown over the house at 1,500 ft heading south westerly

thanks

Typhoon,

What is the mode S code for that particular chopper. Not sure if it is still being used by Strathclyde Police. They are currently using 2 EC135's G-BZRS and G-SPAO c/n's 0166 and 0546 leased from Bond Helicopters. Regularly seen flying over the house here in East Kilbride just outside Glasgow.

Ian,

Its 4009FD, but just done a google on G-SPHU and it looks like its been transfered to the North West Air Ambulance, airframes.org still has it with Strathclyde Police.

Typhoon,

I reckon G-SPHU has been replaced up here by G-BZRS. It has been a fairly recent arrival. The mode S for it is 4008D1. The GAS site states it as belonging to Bond Air Services which ties in with my previous reply.

Bond Air Services also have the G-NWAA which is based at Blackpool and I think G-SPHU is based at Barton Aerodrome, Manchester, both operated by the North West Air Ambulance.

I have updated the info in the database on RB now :-)
