Title: Airnav and Flightradar24 something fishy?
Post by: 3baid on October 09, 2017, 08:19:23 AM
Hello guys..

While I was watching Kuwait air space today morning I noticed something new and fishy at the same time.
it got me asking my self what is the differences between Airnav systems equipment and flightradar24 equipment? is there something in their equipment's that we Airnav systems users does not have?

Kuwait airspace is stuffed with military traffic and so the middle east..
what I noticed today is a military aircraft took of from OKAS ( Ali Al-Salem Air Base ) Heading to UNKNOWN
in airnav platform you see it in the list but it does not plot in the radar screen and shows you position, while flightradar24 shows the aircraft position on map.

can anyone of the experts explain this situation?

please check attachments

Thank you in advanced and best regards.

Nice easy one to answer and nothing fishy .  You will notice that the feeder for POKER44 is MLAT.  This aircraft is not ADS-B equipped therefore does not give off positional information therefore its position has been determined through MLAT triangulation from 3, 4 or more receivers in the local area.  MLAT for RB24 is limited due to their being insufficient receivers in your area and also because Airnav receivers previous to the Comstation are not MLAT capable. Therefore RB24 usually only shows ADS-B equipped aircraft on the map.  You will however see non ABS-B equipped aircraft on the list as their mode-c signal has been received allowing you to know that they are being picked up by your receiver.

You can get more information on MLAT and ADS-B here http://www.multilateration.com/index-2.html and here http://defenseelectronicsmag.com/systems-amp-subsystems/understanding-mode-s-technology

I notice on the plus side for AirNav24 they show American military flights over the UK while FR24 do not.
